WARLI, MADHUBANI, GOND, BHIL, RUPESTRIAN ART
India has a rich tradition of folk arts, the custodians of which are the many tribes that live in the interior of various states.
Types of paintings on products
WARLI
Warli art is a beautiful folk art of Maharashtra, traditionally created by the tribal women .This art was first exposed in the early seventies and from then it was named as ‘Warli art’.
The paintings depict mostly social life. Pictures of human beings and animals , along with scenes from daily life are created in a loose rhythmic pattern.
MADHUBANI
Madhubani art or Mithila painting was traditionally created by the women of various communities in Mithila region of India and Nepal.
It originated from Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar.
The themes are mainly religious and they depict Gods and Goddess , flora and fauna in the painting .
GOND
They are mainly found in Madhya Pradesh and its surrounding states.
The word Gond comes from Kond , which means green mountains in the Dravidian idiom.
Gond paintings can be described as ‘on line work’. Lines are used in such a way that it conveys a sense of movement to the still images .Dots and dashes are added to impart a greater sense of movement and increase the amount of detail.
BHIL
The Bhil tribe is native to Western and Central India.
Bhil paintings usually consist of large , un-life like shapes of everyday characters filled in with bright colours, and then covered with an overlay of uniform dots in several patterns and colours that stand out strictly against the background.
RUPESTRIAN ART (pronounced as hoopestry)
Rupestrian Art (hoopestrian).
Rupestrian Art is specialized painting technique developed in Latin America. It relates to ancient rock art especially as found in caves.
Arti received special training in this technique in Brazil.
